![]() ![]() Noise is a digital “grain”, or erroneous colors that show up at the pixel level. What is image noise and why would you want to remove it?Įvery camera on the market produces digital noise, and every image taken has some amount of noise. For the “too long, didn’t read” crowd, please feel free to jump straight to the results. If you are viewing on mobile, I suggest going straight to those full size jpegs to review the images and using pinch to zoom to inspect closely. I have also posted a link to the full-size jpegs for those who might prefer to make their own comparisons. Today I wanted to investigate three different methods of noise reduction for digital photos and answer a question that has been on my mind for a while: how do different post-production noise reduction techniques compare? Do the differences even matter? To do this, I compared the same photo with noise reduction applied using three different software methods: Topaz DeNoise AI, DXO Photolab 4 DeepPRIME, and Lightroom Noise Reduction. Early in my hobby I was quick to throw away images with noise, but with great improvements in noise reduction software technologies, reasonable improvements can be made to even the most noisy images. These issues, coupled with limited budgets with which to buy expensive lenses that fare best in low light conditions can only lead to one thing: noisy images. When photographing wildlife, there are a number of challenges that affect the quality of the final photograph:ġ) the need to shoot in low-light when many wildlife are most active,Ģ) the lack of reach due to far-off subjects or “too short” lenses, which necessitates cropping to get a desirable compositionģ) sometimes subjects are fast moving and dropping the shutter speed to compensate for low light is not an option A new DeNoise AI preset should be there and it should open to the proper DeNoise AI external editor.Unlike working with human subjects or in a studio, wildlife are unpredictable, and rarely are conditions ideal for getting the best quality photo possible. Reopen Lightroom and try to invoke DeNoise AI from the Edit In options.Mac users should complete the drag and drop installation and leave the app installed directly in Applications. Reinstall DeNoise AI from one of these links. On MacOS, you can delete the Topaz DeNoise AI folder in Applications/Topaz Labs LLC if needed. Close Lightroom and uninstall DeNoise AI from your computer.Clear the Additional Editor Preset Application if it says Topaz DeNoise AI or Topaz DeNoise AI External Editor.Delete the existing DeNoise presets in Lightroom External Editor options:.How to Turn off "Store presets with catalog" in Lightroom Classic (Mac) For some users, this may be the only step needed: ![]() Make sure close DeNoise AI and Lightroom completely when finished, and then check for our external editor presets in Lightroom again before proceeding. Before you do anything else, make sure "Store presets with this catalog" is unchecked in your Lightroom Classic Preferences to make sure your Lightroom catalog settings are correct. ![]() Each step is critical and should be followed exactly. This will completely remove your preset and allow you to re-establish the preset from scratch. If the above steps and video walk-through do not re-establish your Lightroom integration, please follow these steps exactly. Here's a walkthrough video to assist in this new update process:Īdditional Troubleshooting Steps For Lightroom Classic Integration Then close the app and open Photoshop or Lightroom and try again. To be sure the Photoshop plugin resyncs, you can go Help > Re-Install Photoshop Plugin in the DeNoise AI menu. When you do, the Lightroom and Photoshop plugins should resync to the new app automatically. To do this, simply open the app by itself first. ![]() Because we're changing the installation format and location to your main Applications folder, you'll need to reset your plugins for Lightroom and Photoshop.įirst, if you haven't done so please download the latest installer for DeNoise AI from our Topaz Labs Download Page DeNoise AI Stopped Working From Photoshop Or Lightroom When I Updated To DeNoise AI v3.4 Or Higher (Mac) Resetting DeNoise AI To Lightroom and Photoshopįor Mac users, DeNoise AI v3.4 introduces a new installation process that installs the app directly into your Applications folder instead of Applications/Topaz Labs LLC. ![]()
